Down症（ダウン症；染色体異常）のお話
ダウン症は、高齢妊娠と非常に強い関係があります。また年齢が進むと流産に至る確率が上昇しますが、これは児の染色体異常が主な原因として挙げられます。男女とも高齢になると精子、卵子の老化が進むために、受精卵に染色体異常をきたす確率も上昇します。
ダウン症の確率は40歳の妊娠で100人に1人の割合（１％）とされています。下記に海外でのダウン症の年齢別頻度を表示しました。下の表は年齢別流産率です。高齢になると流産率が上昇しますが、単に月経が遅れてきただけと、本人が認識している場合もかなりあるようです。なお、羊水染色体検査にてDown症は見つけることが出来ます。
